The Lazareto Hotel is surrounded by water on three sides. You can swim directly from the rocks below, or walk a few minutes to Kourkoula — a natural sea inlet shaped like a pool, on the road toward the Castle — or to the portelo inside the Castle walls, where you swim beneath the ramparts with a view of the entire medieval town.
Within three to ten kilometres, a series of sandy beaches lines both the north and south coasts: Pori to the north, and Ampelakia, Xifias, Kastella and Agios Fokas to the south. Small tavernas open at these beaches in summer.
For those willing to travel a little further, Elafonisos — forty minutes by car and a short ferry — offers some of the finest sand beaches in the Mediterranean.
Local tip
The pebble beach to the left of the bridge is the quietest option close to town, with easy access to nearby cafes.
